Safety & Security
Mount Pleasant is one of the most active cemeteries in the GTA and presents an interesting challenge for the people who manage it. Our first priority is and must be to the rights holders and families who use the cemetery to remember and care for their loved ones. But, at the same time, the cemetery has a wealth of history and natural beauty to share with the public at large. The difficulty lies in striking a reasonable balance between the two without compromising what the cemetery was created for in 1876.
We want the public to enjoy what the cemetery has to offer. To ensure the safety of all visitors to the cemtery we have some rules which we ask all to adhere to:
- Passive recreational use of bicycles is welcomed however speeds must be maintained at less than 10 km/hr ... in other words, at a leisurely pace;
- Bicycles are not permitted in the Garden of Remebrance - please use the bicycle racks provided at the entrance to the gardens;
- Please do not bike on the grass;
- Give pedestrians ample warning that you are approaching them so you don't startle them when you pass;
- Bicycle racing is not permitted at any time.
- Roller blading is a great form of exercise however it is not permitted within the cemetery.
- Vehicles must not exceed 30 km/hr while driving within the cemetery;
- Do not drive or park your car on the grass
- If you leave your car unattended, please remove your valuables and lock your doors - the cemetery is not liable for any damage to your vehicle or loss of personal items while in the cemetery.
- We all love our pets but they are not permitted within the cemetery.
- Any conduct or behaviour which disturbs the decorum of the cemetery or violates the Cemetery By-laws may result in the individual(s) being required to leave the cemetery grounds;
- Please remember this is a cemetery.
- Be respectful of those visitors in the cemetery who are grieving or attending services;
- When near a service in progress, whispering is good (and appreciated by those graveside);
- Give way to funeral processionals on the cemetery roadways.
